Hello Book Clubbers!
This thursday at 19:30 we are following up our discussion on Nicolas Bourriaud with a few excerpts from his book Postproduction. In this work Bourriaud makes reference to the tactical artistry of appropriation, recycling and remixing which, he claims, is self evident as a matter of course. The material to be read is in english, please notify us if you would like a copy of the reading.

„Since the early nineties, an ever increasing number of artworks have been created on the basis of preexisting works; more and more artists interpret, reproduce, re-exhibit, or use works made by others or available cultural products. This art of post production seems to respond to the proliferating chaos of global culture in the information age, which is characterized by an increase in the supply of works and the art world’s annexation of forms ignored or disdained until now.“

On friday we will be viewing videos by two young artists who utilize and re-edit found footage. Through the juxtaposition of disparate content and mood their satirical handling renders the material harmless and self-reflexive in its own absurdity. Both artists explore the discursive intersections of popular media and reality in these works and in so doing raise questions about the contemporary constructs of validity and believability .
